The Yellow Lake Fire continues to spread as crews battle the movement towards structures and communities. The Operational Update on October 14th reported that the fire now exceeds 31,000 acres and is listed at 23 percent containment. Dennis Burns, fire behavior analyst for the Incident Management Team, shared that they have been dealing with some unusual wind behavior and crews have worked hard to lock off the fire and protect the community of Hanna and Tabiona. They are utilizing logging equipment to reinforce lines. Unfortunately, the next 3 days are forecast to be borderline critical fire conditions with Wednesday expected to be the worst day. It is anticipated there will be very strong winds, very dry air and conditions very similar to when the fire made a big push before. The positive news is that right after that there is moisture forecast, potentially snow up to 4, maybe 6 inches which would be a significant change in the weather. Burns just says that unfortunately, there’s some really nasty weather conditions to get through first.
