A Wyoming man that previously pleaded Not Guilty to charges, including DUI and a
count of Aggravated Homicide by Vehicle, has changed his plea to Guilty. In June of
2022, Jaquan Tavion Lyons-Smith attended a bonfire off US 191 south of Rock Springs.
While he arrived alone, he left with four passengers and while speeding northbound on
US 191 he lost control of the vehicle and hit a traffic sign. Sweetwater Now reported that
investigation showed there were no marks on the roadway to indicate any braking. The
crash resulted in the death of a 15-year-old female and seriously injured three other
passengers. Lyons-Smith was found to be driving under the influence of marijuana and
alcohol. While he had pleaded Not Guilty to the charges in the spring of 2023, he entered
a new plea agreement on August 1st with his change in plea to Guilty. His sentencing
date has not yet been scheduled.
