The Wyoming Geological Survey has released a new geologic map of an area that covers portions of Sweetwater County in Wyoming, Daggett County in Utah, and Moffat County in Colorado. It is a 1:100,000-scale geologic map of the Firehole Canyon quadrangle that is mostly southwestern Wyoming as well as parts of Utah and Colorado. “This updated synthesis integrates aerial imagery, lidar, and field data to offer fresh insights into the region’s complex geologic history,” shares the Wyoming Geological Survey. “From Late Cretaceous to Quaternary formations, this map reveals a rich mix of marine shales, deltaic sandstones, and volcaniclastic materials—highlighting the region’s dynamic geological evolution.” Key highlights include the Southwestern Rock Springs Uplift, Eastern margin of the Bridger Basin, and Northern flank of the Uinta Mountains. The new map is available at wsgs.wyo.gov.
