A Uintah High alum and former Ute wrestler will be featured in a documentary about a terrifying experience he and his wrestling teammates faced in the fall of 2022. August Harrison of Vernal was shed hunting that fall day near Cody, Wyoming with three of his Northwest College wrestling teammates when he and one teammate went one direction and his other teammates, Brady Lowry and Kendall Cummings, went another direction. What happened next for Lowry and Cummings was terrifying beyond belief. A grizzly bear emerged from the brush and charged and mauled Lowry. Cummings attacked the bear from behind and was then attacked before the bear returned for Lowry. Miraculously, the grizzly eventually walked away, leaving the young men still alive. Once he saw his seriously wounded teammates, August Harrison ran for help. They called 9-1-1 and rushed the boys to the trailhead. Both young men were hospitalized and underwent multiple surgeries. This summer the four young men reunited and traveled to Alaska with the Brave Wilderness documentary film crew to tell their story in a setting surrounded by bears. It’s expected the documentary will be released in 2025.
