Local agencies are working together to help workers affected by layoffs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a press release from Uintah County, the Work-Share Program is set up to help Uintah County residents who have been furloughed or laid off from businesses throughout the county due to the public health order that has affected businesses like restaurants, hotels, bars, and theaters. The program begins Monday, March 30th, and will end when the health order is either lifted or funds are exhausted. “The county will use revitalization funds, which are not taxpayer dollars, to pay for this temporary program,” shares Uintah County Commission Chairman Brad Horrocks. “These funds come back to the county and are used for projects or programs that help us revitalize our community. As a county commission, we are looking at every aspect of the current situation and working with others in our community to help our residents and our businesses.” Businesses affected must submit an application of interest to the county on behalf of their employees and businesses must show that they plan to call their employees back to work once the public health order is lifted. Those who are hired for the Work-Share program must be at least 18-years-old and those who qualify will be paid $12 per hour. Jobs will take into account guidelines on social distancing.
