Uintah County fire crews have been busy since the spring burn window opened up on March 30th. According to Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond, crews have handled multiple fires since and wind has been a common denominator in the spread of each fire. A fire in Tridell quickly got out of control on Saturday when the wind picked up in the afternoon. People were burning trash when the wind carried the flame, resulting in 30 acres burned with a shed, haystack and fenceline included in the damage. Raymond estimates that fire resulted in $60,000 to $70,000 dollars in damage. The woman responsible was cited with a misdemeanor for burning trash. Another brush fire got out of control on Monday in Tridell resulting in several thousand dollars in damage. “Monday was incredibly windy and we need everyone to be especially careful with the wind,” shares Raymond. On Wednesday, Vernal City Fire was called to a structure fire
around noon
near
650 South 1000 West in Vernal
. When crews arrived there were two sheds fully engulfed, one side of the house, and a vehicle on fire. The fire was threatening two other sheds and two homes. Crews contained the fire and extinguished the side of the house. Another house close by had some siding melted. Fencing, yards, and personal property of neighbors was also burned up. With the house, sheds, and vehicle, Raymond estimates the damage to be around $25,000 to $30,000 dollars. The fire was considered an accident and noone was hurt or injured. The homeowner and pets were home but able to get out. It’s suspected the fire was caused by heaters in the shed. Naples Fire Department responded to another call
on Wednesday afternoon around 3:30
or
4:00pm
. Homeowners near 1700 South and 1600 East were burning weeds in their backyard when the wind carried the fire down a gully burning several acres of neighboring property, including a camper trailer and boat. Raymond is warning Uintah County residents to exercise caution. Conditions are dry and a little wind can lead to serious damage. Visit
