Hundreds of selfies with the green T-Rex in Vernal City were shared online recently
thanks to Holly Days last month and it brought up some questions about whether or not
the T-Rex makeover is complete. Specifically, will T-Rex ever dress up in his holiday
gear again? Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion was happy to provide an update to
Evans Family Media, explaining that non-essential services such as the manpower to
dress up T-Rex were cut when City revenues were down with the COVID scare. When
the crowdfunding effort happened to see T-Rex repaired, the City distributed a survey and
the majority of people expressed the desire to see T-Rex dressed up again. The City
Council has been open to decorating T-Rex a few times a year, shares Bennion, and with
City finances greatly improved it’s likely an official decision will be made in the spring.
If and when that final decision is made, the Council will also have to determine how the
festive costuming is implemented. Putting hats and big props on the new paint and stucco
could damage T-Rex so exactly how he is dressed up in the future would be another topic
to be addressed.
