Poachers beware! Rifle hunting on the opening weekend of archery season will not go unnoticed. According to the Utah Conservation Officers Association, wildlife officers are currently working on a case from opening weekend of the archery season in the Vernal area. An individual was in close proximity of where a buck deer went down after hearing a rifle shot. “He quickly responded to investigate the origin of the high powered rifle blast knowing people could only be hunting with archery equipment,” shares the announcement. “A vehicle was seen leaving the area quickly.” The buck deer was left at the location. Conservation officers in Vernal were called and responded to gather initial evidence and are working to find the poacher responsible. The Utah Conservation Officers Association expressed appreciation for “the quick response of the concerned individual whom reported this and are working through the leads generated from this citizen.”
