What You Need To Know About 2021 Christmas Tree Cutting

by | Nov 2, 2021 | News | 0 comments

It’s November so talk of Christmas is fair game. For families who make cutting a Christmas tree from the forest a tradition, the Forest Service has shared everything you need to know for this year. Heading to the mountains can be unpredictable so always prepare for winter conditions, stay on designated roads and trails, bring a 4-wheel drive vehicle, and always let someone know where you are going. When the time comes to cut your tree, you must always cut it close to the ground leaving a stump no higher than 6 inches, attach the permit to the tree before leaving the cutting area, and remember tree topping is never allowed. Also, no cutting within 200 feet of lakes, streams, roads, campgrounds, picnic areas, or any closed areas shown on the tree cutting maps. Christmas tree permits for Ashley National Forest will be available beginning Tuesday, November 9th. Call 435-789-1181 with questions.
