National Weather Service has reported that an unseasonably cold Arctic storm system will move through the area today and into Wednesday, making the biggest impact on the western side of the Uintah Basin. There will be strong downslope winds to the affected areas making it important to secure loose yard items and remove loose branches from trees. Wind gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour are anticipated and residents are asked to prepare for potential power outages and property damage. Snow will fall in the Uinta Mountains with 5 to 10 inches anticipated and with the winds causing blowing snow. Near blizzard conditions are likely in the Uinta Mountains. Temperatures on Tuesday will be well below seasonal norms and then there will be a rapid cool down Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning with freezing temperatures anticipated, specifically in the western areas of the Uintah Basin. Local law enforcement urged residents to please prepare for the wind gusts by trimming trees and securing furniture or other items that may blow away. With the possibility of the freeze be sure to unhook hoses, and/or take precautions for sprinklers. Be prepared as there could be a delay in emergency response.
