It’s better safe than sorry when it comes to the potential of spreading an illness. The Uintah County Western Park announced Saturday that their facility is now on quarantine pending test results for Vesicular Stomatitis Virus, an illness that affects primarily horses. Cases of Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (VSV) have been spreading in the region and Uintah County is among the areas with multiple confirmed cases, though several of those cases are now off quarantine. Last week, the Utah Department of Agriculture confirmed that a new property was quarantined, this time in Duchesne County. The management at Western Park stated that their facility will remained closed to any horses coming to the facility and an update will be provided after test results come back, hopefully by Wednesday. If you suspect an animal has Vesicular Stomatitis Virus, immediately call the State Veterinarian at 801-538-7162.
