Western Colorado Search And Rescue Responds To Multiple Calls In 72 Hours

Much of Eastern Utah has only seen glimpses of winter weather while western Colorado has already dealt with extreme winter conditions. Over the weekend, road conditions in western Colorado were extreme with multiple head-on crashes and slide offs reported . Just a few days before that, Search and Rescue teams worked around the clock as multiple calls came in needing their assistance over a 72 hour period. Routt County Search and Rescue took the lead starting with a call of 2 snowmobilers who spent the night after getting stuck along a creek. 3 teams, each taking a different route, tried to access the area where the snowmobilers were stranded. It took advanced snowmobile riders and several skiers navigating together to get the snowmobilers to safety. Just as teams arrived back to the staging area, a new call came in of another snowmobiler on Rabbit Ears Pass that had crashed and had severe injuries. The rescuers responded and helped get the man transport. As that snowmobiler was loaded into the helicopter, another call came in for search and rescue for a young woman who had crashed her snowmobile into a tree. They were able to find her and load her up. Well done to all the responders.
