Crews will start aerial and hand ignitions in the West Fork Duchesne Prescribed Fire Project area today, October 24th. The project area is between Duchesne Ridge Road on the north side and Red Mountain Road on the south side. Forest Service shares that the primary objective is to create a mosaic pattern in the vegetation being burned, allowing for regeneration of different plant species, and breaking up the continuity of the vegetation. This promotes the health and diversity of different ecosystems. The expected burn area is approximately 1,000 acres. Fire personnel will monitor the fire and smoke may be visible. The prescribed fire project area will be closed to all uses for public safety on at least the day of the burn.
