Weather Prediction Center Experimental Product

by | Jan 23, 2019 | News | 0 comments

The National Weather Service is using an experimental product to help the public to make better choices in the winter months. The experimental product is called the Winter Storm Severity Index (WSSI) and is designed to be a companion to aid the forecasts. The WSSI creates graphical images that indicates the overall level of winter precipitation and its societal impacts. Such impacts include driving and snow load on roofs. For the Uintah Basin, we can check snow load, flash freezes, blowing snow and other factors that affect travel. While the product is still in testing and development, the Weather Prediction Center is looking for feedback.
