It’s Native American Heritage Month and events are being organized around the state in recognition. The first ‘American Indian Day’ was held in 1915 and was held in different forms for many years until 1990 when President George H.W. Bush designated November as National American Indian Heritage Month. An event included among those around the state has a local tie to the Uintah Basin. Ute Indian Tribe Education Director Ronee Wopsock is making a virtual presentation on November 21st at 10:00am on the topic of Tribal Enrollment and Blood Quantum. The event description states, “Despite its colonial origins, many tribes still use blood quantum as a requirement for tribal enrollment. Ronee Wopsock will share the history behind blood quantum and the implications for citizenship and belonging.” Link to the Zoom meeting registration with this story on www.BasinNow.com.
