Video footage was the key to solving a case of a missing wallet at the Roosevelt branch library. Back in July, a library administrator received a note requesting that video footage from a week before be reviewed because a patron had reported losing her wallet at the library and was hoping for some video clues if perhaps she had dropped it or left it somewhere in the library. A review of the video identified the patron sitting at a table with her wallet on the table next to her. She got up from the table and walked away, leaving the wallet on the table. A few minutes later, a man walked around the table while observing the wallet. He returned with a phone, charger, and water bottle and placed them on the table before walking away. He then returned, picked up the wallet, and walked away. The man in the video was identified as 49-year-old Steven Paul Hamel. Hamel was arrested on October 16th on the offenses of Theft and 2nd Degree Felony Unlawful Acquiring of Financial Cards.
