The Vernal Youth City Council toured the State Capital on Wednesday and learned about the workings of the State legislature during meetings with state representatives as part of Local Officials Day. Youth City Council 2022 is composed of Adam White (who serves as Mayor), Halle Hacking, Grace Bennett, Alyssa Howell, Angelina Nading, Harlee Woods, Brynna McCormick, Ashlyn Meier and Andrew Flores (not pictured). The group is made up of students from Uintah High School and Terra Academy and the youth were accompanied by Vernal City Mayor Doug Hammond, Marquita Hammond, Youth Council Advisor Heidi Bennion, and Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion. The students met with Senator Ron Winterton and Representative Scott Chew to gain insights about the legislative process and what it is like to be a state legislator. The group meets twice a month to discuss civic leadership, learn about local government and participate in several services projects during the year.
