A Vernal teen’s design of the Utah state flag is a semi-finalist under consideration as part of the ‘More Than A Flag’ initiative. Angelina Nading was attending her first Local Officials Day at the state Capitol as a member of the Vernal Youth City Council last January when she participated in an activity to submit new design ideas for the Utah flag. Out of all the youth in attendance, Angelina’s design was recognized as one of the top 10 out of the 400 youth designs that day. “My design incorporated simple, meaningful symbols of Utah that made the flag less complicated,” explains Angelina. Her design that is included as a semi-finalist is royal blue with a yellow beehive in the middle and 8 stars circling the beehive. “Our state represents industry and hard work which is what the beehive represents,” shares Angelina. The circle of stars represents unity and there are 8 of them to represent Utah’s Tribal Nations. The ‘More Than A Flag’ initiative, supported by the Governor’s Office and the Utah Legislature, accepted thousands of flag design entries this year.
