Vernal Regional Airport manager Doug Brown gave a report to the board of the Uintah Transportation Special Service District on Thursday evening. Brown explained to the board the need to analyze the rates at the airport. Brown specifically wanted to discuss the lease rates for the hangers at the airport. Currently, lease rates are at 15 cents per square foot for both commercial and private hangers. Brown explained that the rate is low, making comparisons to other airports including Roosevelt which is 20 cents for private and 35 cents for commercial and Heber which is more than double. “We are one of the lowest rates in the state,” shared Brown. His proposal is to adjust the private lease to 18 cents per square foot and the commercial to 22 cents per square foot. Members of the board indicated that they felt that proposal was fair. Brown also presented the final enplanements count for 2017 with Boutique Air saying it was an increase of 164 percent from 2016. Enplanements for 2017 was nearly 6,600.
