Vernal Police have a very timely reminder for residents that has to do with the safety of our community’s children. “The Vernal Police Department has recently dealt with multiple motorists disregarding the flashing lights on school buses in our area,” shares the announcement. “We want to remind drivers to be aware of these buses and the school children getting on and off them. Recently the penalties for violating the flashing lights on a school bus have been increased significantly.” As of May 1st, the penalties imposed by Utah Statute for disobeying school bus signs and lights has increased to a $1000 dollar fine and 10 hours of service for a 1st Offense, a $2000 dollar fine and 20 hours of service for a 2nd Offense within a 5 year period, and a $3000 dollar fine and 40 hours of service within a 5 year period.
