Vernal PD Issues Scam Alert: LEO Officers Will Not Demand Money For Bail

by | May 29, 2024 | News | 0 comments

The intimidation factor of being contacted by a supposed law enforcement officer asking
for bail money may feel real but Vernal PD is urging locals not to fall for any such tactics.
“We have received numerous complaints about scammers posing as local law
enforcement officers and demanding money for bail,” shares Vernal PD. “The scammers
are using names of local business employees, likely found online, to make the scam more
believable. Our officers will NEVER call and demand money from any citizens. Anyone
who receives suspicious phone calls from law enforcement should confirm their
legitimacy in person by visiting their local police department or by calling dispatch at
435-789-4222.” If you receive a call from a scammer, hang up and report the incident
using the online tool at IC3.gov.
