As National Suicide Prevention Week draws to a close, the Vernal PD has posted on their Facebook the warning signs that people should be aware of concerning suicide. These are not strict rules but are indicators to reach out for help. Topics or wording in conversations to stay alert to are the following: experiencing unbearable pain, being a burden to others, having no reason to live, feeling trapped and having thoughts of killing themselves. Other signs include loss of interest, irritability, humiliation, rage, anxiety and depression. Behaviors to watch for include withdrawing from activities, increased use of alcohol or drugs, isolating from family and friends, giving away prized possessions, aggression, visiting or calling people to say goodbye, acting recklessly, looking for a way to kill themselves (such as searching online for materials or means), and sleeping too much or too little.
