A Vernal man is facing charges after allegedly stabbing his roommate over rent money. 27-year-old Cody James Aaron Evans has been charged in 8th District Court with 2nd Degree Felony Aggravated Assault and Class B Misdemeanor Assault. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, an officer was dispatched on a disorderly detail of male subjects fighting outside an apartment near 450 South 200 East in Vernal on September 25th. The Officer spoke with the victim and noticed a large amount of blood on the back of his shirt. The victim stated that he was beat up by three men and was then taken to the hospital. The victim’s girlfriend stated that when the pair arrived outside the residence an argument began about rent money and as soon as they entered the residence the three men jumped on her boyfriend and started beating him. The Officer spoke with the victim at the hospital who stated that when the beating ended he started packing his things to move out of the apartment but the argument with Cody Evans continued. The victim said Evans followed him as he packed things to his vehicle and then as he was walking up the stairs to enter the apartment he felt as though Cody grabbed him from behind. He continued packing and his girlfriend noted he was bleeding at which point “Cody yelled out that he had stabbed the victim.” As the Officer continued the investigation he found another person who confirmed that he also heard a male matching Cody Evan’s description say that he had stabbed the victim. The Officer was later advised by the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office that Cody Evans had been booked into Uintah County Jail after becoming extremely intoxicated and threatening to stab a homeowner in a separate incident. The Officer attempted to interview Evans at the jail but was unable to due to his level of intoxication. While Evans had already been booked by the Sheriff’s Office on the separate incident, he was then booked on the charges related to the stabbing that took place earlier. Evans is currently scheduled for his initial appearance in 8th District Court on October 5th.
