A Vernal fire of a four-plex last week was allegedly a case of Domestic Violence related Arson. 34-year-old Cesar Antonio Guevara has been charged with Domestic Violence related Aggravated Arson, Aggravated Assault, Domestic Violence in the Presence of a Child, and Intoxication, among other charges. According to the Probable Cause Statement, on or between January 14th and 15th, Guevara threatened the girlfriend and minor daughter with a firearm multiple times. The girlfriend locked herself and her daughter in her bedroom to get away from him. Guevara threatened to shoot them both through the door and so the two climbed out of the window of the bedroom and left in a car to safety. Sometime after they left, Guevara intentionally set fire to his girlfriend’s apartment and then left on foot. The damage to the apartment was a total loss and the damage from the fire displaced four other individuals that were living in the four-plex in addition to the victims. Guevara was arrested and booked into Uintah County Jail. The victims did lose all their belongings and family members are working to gather donations as they try to move forward.
