January came with some unexpected surprises for the Blanchard family of Vernal and yet they freely express their gratitude. On January 13th, Alecia Blanchard’s water broke and, being only 24 weeks pregnant, she was flown to the University of Utah hospital where the focus was on preventing the premature birth of her son for as long as possible. On January 16th, at 24 weeks and 4 days, the Blanchard’s baby boy Andrew was born, weighing just 1 pound 10 ounces. While he is stable, it will be a long stay in the NICU, expected to last until his due date in May. “Andrew is doing okay,” shares Alecia. “He is a feisty little guy. The NICU nurses are just absolutely obsessed and in love with him. He’s got an issue with his blood pressure and heart rate being too high so they’ve been running a lot of tests to find out what’s going on.” Family have started a GoFundMe titled ‘Urgent Aid for Alecia’s Premature Labor’ to help with expenses at this difficult time for the Blanchards. Those able to show their support can link to the GoFundMe through this news story on BasinNow.com or by sending a Venmo donation to @Babybird8520.
