It was a full house at the Vernal City employee appreciation dinner last week where employees were recognized for their service. Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion took the opportunity to present a 2023 year in review outlining progress on projects, changes, and data for the year. Some of the details include the following: Vernal Police Department handled 3,048 cases with 1,454 citations issued, and 1,640 arrests. Out of 146 cities in the state of Utah, Vernal was the 17th lowest in property taxes putting it in the bottom 12 percent with a tax of about $103 dollars per year on a $292,000 dollar property. In 2023, 232 building permits were issued which is up from 209 the year before. The Vernal Regional Airport had an excellent year with 13,952 enplanements. Bennion also reported on the downtown revitalization progress made and events that Vernal City were part of, among other topics, of which follow up news stories will be shared in separate news stories.
