The Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee made the most of attending Utah Chamber Day on the Hill last week, taking time to meet in person with legislators to support or advocate legislative items important to the businesses or citizens in Uintah County. The following are among the bills the Committee put time into: They showed support for HB265 which would allow colleges to receive credit for secondary students as well as senior students. They showed opposition to HB186 Wage Payment Amendments which, if passed, would be unfairly burdensome to local small business owners. They supported HB275-First Responder Volunteer Tax Credit. This bill would provide a state tax credit for volunteer firefighters and other first responders who work hard to serve and protect in times of emergency. Committee members also wrote letters and met with representatives from the teams of Senator Curtis and Senator Lee concerning public lands and supporting the energy industry. The Utah Legislature session ends March 7th. There are over 750 bills under consideration this session.
