After a fantastic showing of endurance and athleticism, the Uintah High Ute wrestling team are the 4A state champions! The Ute team earned an accumulative 332.5 points beating out the Mountain Crest team at 295 points. It’s been 22 years since the last time the Uintah Boys Wrestling Team took the state title and this weekend’s win was especially exciting as Coach Phillip Keddy was also named the 4A Coach of the Year. It was a wonderful weekend after a season of hard work. “I’m really proud of these kids and the work they put in,” shares Coach Keddy. “They earned every bit of it and it was a joy to coach this team!” Of course a state title means that the individual team members had a great weekend of competition. Brady Merkley was named the 4A Outstanding Wrestler for the lower weights group. Merkley is a three time state champion as a Junior. In this weekend’s competition, Clayson Mele (120), Brady Merkley (132), Josh Holmes (138), Austin Richens (170), and Will Price (182) each won state titles. Other top placers in their respective weight classes were: Jaxon McCurdy (106) in third place; Mason Holt (113) in sixth place; Raiden Harrison (120)in  fifth place; Cole Huber (126) in third place; Jaxon Johnson (132) in third place; Jacob Rhoades (138) in fifth place; Dillon Dick (152) in second place; Cale Hatch (152) in fifth place; Dustin Rhoades (160) in fifth place; Jett Swain (195) in fifth place; and Gage Howard (220) in third place. Congratulations to the entire team, the coaching staff, and all who supported this group on their road to success.
