The Ute Indian Tribe has unveiled the Willow Creek Microgrid project. According to a press release from the Ute Indian Tribe, the project features a state-of-the-art solar array integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System. “This advanced setup maximizes solar energy’s potential by efficiently harnessing sunlight and storing excess power in high-tech batteries for later use,” shares the announcement. “All project facilities are to be owned and operated by the Ute Indian Tribe. The Willow Creek Microgrid represents a pioneering venture in the Uintah Basin, setting a precedent as the first of its kind. This innovative project demonstrates the potential for decentralized energy solutions to meet needs efficiently and sustainably.” The microgrid features the following: A state-of-the-art solar array that captures and converts sunlight into clean energy; An advanced Battery Energy Storage System that stores surplus energy for use during peak demand or low sunlight periods; And a 700 kilowatt gas generation unit providing backup energy to ensure a reliable power supply at all times.
