Utah’s unemployment rate made another small shift upward last month, according to new data from the Division of Workforce Services. Unemployment rose in the state one-tenth of a percent to 3.5 percent. Approximately 54,500 Utahns were unemployed during the month of July while nationally unemployment ticked down to 4.3 percent. In the last year, however, Utah’s employment grew by 2.9 percent, adding 41,300 jobs to the economy. That means Utah’s current employment level registers at 1,460,200. “With more than 40,000 new jobs added since last year, Utah’s economy continues to exhibit healthy expansion,” shares DWS Chief Economist Carrie Mayne. “The unemployment rate showed a slight increase again in July but remains near full employment.”
