Do you care about the health of our National Forests? Are you interested in the management of Roadless Areas? The Utah Public Lands Policy Coordinating Office explains that Utah’s forest managers are facing serious challenges brought on by the “Roadless Rule”. The original 1990’s federal rule was intended to protect the forest but unfortunately has lead to overgrowth and unhealthy forests. Adding to the problem is the dead trees that choke out limited space and resources. The public land managers are seeking the ability to improve the health through forest-restoration projects. Projects include removing beetle-infested trees, thinning overgrown areas or conducting prescribed burns. The health of the forest affects all of us so the State of Utah is inviting Uintah Basin residents to an open house
on Tuesday, October 23

, from 5-7pm
at the Uintah County Library. The discussion will center on a request that the State is submitting to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a Utah-specific Roadless Rule that would better serve our unique forest ecosystems.
