Utah National Guardsman to be Laid to Rest on Saturday

A Utah National Guardsman who was killed in Afghanistan will be laid to rest this Saturday in Monticello. 27-year-old Staff Sgt. Aaron Butler was killed in action on August 16th in Nangarhar Province. He was a member of the Green Beret Special Forces and was assigned to the Utah National Guard 19th Special Forces group. A Vernal woman and her family was especially saddened to hear the news of Sgt. Butler’s death. 29-year-old Natalie Bird went to school with Sgt. Butler and says he was a kind and respectful teenager, always the perfect gentleman. Governor Gary Herbert has ordered the lowering of the United States and State of Utah flags
on Saturday, August 26th.
Governor Herbert said he was heartbroken to hear of Sgt. Butler’s passing. “It truly isn’t possible to offer adequate thanks to those who put their lives on the line day after day,” shares Herbert, “in the defense of freedom around the world.” Sgt. Butler’s body arrived from overseas at the Monticello Airport on Thursday, August 24th, what would have been Sgt. Butler’s 28th birthday.
