Utah Leaders on State’s Labor Market

While the Basin economy has its own unique structure, state and local leaders continue to focus on creating an environment where businesses can succeed. The private sector job growth in Utah is at 3.5 percent, ranking number one in the nation with Nevada, Idaho and Florida trailing. In total job growth, Utah is at 3.3 percent, only outranked by Idaho at 3.4 percent. “Because of the hard work Utahns put in every day, we are leading the nation in both private sector job growth and overall job growth,” says Governor Herbert. “These accolades are a result of our commitment to fundamental, conservative principles that cultivate an environment where business can succeed.” The Basin economy continues to struggle but unemployment is at least shifting in the right direction. Daggett County shifted from 3.8 to 3.5 percent unemployment. Duchesne County shifted down from 7 percent to 6.5 percent unemployment and Uintah County also saw a half a percent drop from 7.3 to 6.8 percent unemployment. To put things in perspective, this means in the last year, unemployment in Daggett County dropped 2 full percentage points, Duchesne County dropped 3.3 percent and Uintah County dropped 3 percent.
