While it continues to be hotly debated, a bill in the Utah Legislature has continued its movement and passed the House on Wednesday. HB 302, Preserving Sports for Female Students, would require public schools to designate athletic activities by sex. It would also prohibit a student of the “male sex” from partcipating in athletic activities designated for female students. The bill is sponsored by Representative Kera Birkeland whose district includes the northwestern part of Duchesne County. The bill received a favorable recommendation in the House Committee last week of a 6 to 4 vote and passed the full House on Wednesday after a 50 to 23 vote. HB 302 now moves on to the Senate.
