The Utah Highway Patrol is urging safety on Utah roads with the release of their roads report on July 3rd. UHP has investigated 63 traffic deaths so far which is only one less than the same time frame in 2016. Over half of those deaths were also cases where seatbelts were not worn. 132,747 vehicles were stopped, 54% for speeding, 14% for no seat belt worn and 1.2% resulting in a DUI arrest. 94% of crashes have been due to human choice or error. In the last 5 years the leading causes of traffic crash deaths were speed, unrestrained occupants, drunk drivers, failure to yield, and distracted driving. “Many of the deaths on Utah’s roadways are preventable,” shares the UHP. “Decisions like not buckling up, speeding, drinking and driving, or driving distracted have very serious and often deadly consequences.” Be safe on the road. Buckle up and slow down!
