Utah Division of Water Resources Says Stretching Water Supply Critical This Year

by | Mar 6, 2025 | News | 0 comments

The Utah Division of Water Resources is driving home their message that all must stretch the water supply by sharing a very expressive ‘snowmoji’ map. “The latest snowmoji map shows us where snow water equivalent is at across the state’s watersheds,” shares the update. “…Remember, two big factors in spring runoff and water supply are snowpack and soil moisture. Higher soil moisture in the fall helps maximize runoff in the spring, but last year’s dry conditions mean we may see below-average runoff even in areas with decent snowpack.” The only area that is slightly above 100% of normal is the Bear River Basin. The Northeastern Uintas are lumped in with this green zone, watched over by the approving smiley face emoji on the map as they sit at 92% of normal. Duchesne is in the yellow zone at 83% of normal and accompanied by a disapproving emoji while everything south is yellow and red zones populated by emojis in crisis. Everyone is urged to conserve water and remember water supply always matters.
