September saw the Utah Department of Health and Human Services release the newest
updates to the Health Status report. Some of the highlights include that there are 300
school nurses to cover 1,046 schools in Utah. 47,095 students in Utah have health
conditions ranging from mental health to seizures, diabetes, asthma, and anaphylaxis.
Utah had the 9th highest age adjusted suicide rate in the U.S. in 2020. Ages 45-64 have
the highest rate of suicide, while age 10-17 experience the highest rate of suicide
ideation. Firearms were the leading cause of child injury deaths in 2020, hitting the
highest recorded rate since 1999. Suffocation was second with 31.1% and motor vehicle
crashes were third with 28.1%
