Uintah County is participating in state and federal programs to improve cyber security. During Tuesday’s Commission meeting, I.T. employee Ryan Mattson presented a Memorandum of Understanding to the Commissioners for the State of Utah Center State and Local Cyber Grant Program. Mattson explained that the federal government has a grant program for cyber security and Utah is participating. Uintah County had also applied locally and received money for backup equipment and the State of Utah is allowing Uintah County to participate with them as well. The services include an advanced antivirus program that also offers a number of vulnerability checks on the county’s network as well as security training. This will include phishing campaign tests in the form of bogus emails going out to county employees to see if they will recognize scams when they come through. The hope is to catch and educate employees before a real situation occurs. The Uintah County Commission approved the participation in the programs being offered.
