Utah Cutthroat Slam Reaches Huge Milestone

It might have slipped past the radar of people in the Uintah Basin but the Utah Cutthroat Slam, a fishing challenge launched  by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and Trout Unlimited, reached a milestone last month. There have been 1,000 completions of the slam. The fishing challenge helps fund conservation efforts for native cutthroat trout in Utah. The slam requires the angler to catch and release  four Utah cutthroat trout subspecies in their native waters, including the Colorado River Cutthroat Trout. Over $78,000 has been raised for cutthroat trout restoration since the program began. 22 conservation projects have been completed using the proceeds generated from slam registration fees. To celebrate the 1,000 slams that have been completed, the DWR and Trout Unlimited will be releasing four new cutthroat medallions in the coming years.
