The Uintah Basin has many natural resources but one of the greatest is the talents and skills of the individuals that call it home. Utah State University Uintah Basin welcomes to their staff, Joslin Batty as a clinical assistant professor in the university’s Department of Sociology, Social Work and Anthropology. Batty is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience in child and family services, juvenile justice, adolescent residential behavioral programs and outpatient clinics, as well as served in a therapeutic wilderness program. She moved to Vernal to raise her family, earned her Master of Social Work from USU Uintah Basin, and currently owns and operates The Journey Counseling Center in Vernal. Her entrepreneurial efforts of overseeing 10 mental health therapists who provide treatment for children, adolescents and adults healing from trauma will help students have a real world understanding of the application of Social Work.  Joslin shares, “I have a strong attachment to USU because it is my alma mater, and my favorite thing about USU is its ability to bring higher education to rural areas. Look anywhere and if you look hard enough, there is potential for the impact of Social Work. Social Work is important because it truly encompasses all the parts of the whole; the individual within their current environment and environmental origin, while also considering the biological and psychological factors.” Batty will officially start on August 1st.
