USDA Approves Second ReCONNECT Grant to Expand Broadband in Basin

Thanks to grants through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, plans continue forward as the Uintah Basin is among the lucky areas across the United States that will see high-speed broadband made accessible to even its remotest areas. In early 2020, the USDA held a special press conference in Uintah County to announce that $23.6 million dollars of funds through the USDA ReConnect program was awarded to STRATA Networks to build an all-fiber network to reach over 3,000 farms, businesses, and homes. At the time, STRATA CEO Bruce H. Todd stated that this is truly needed as the specific locations are remote and pose significant financial barriers to getting service to. In August, STRATA was awarded a second ReCONNECT grant for an additional $24.5 million dollars for this cause. The USDA award states that the funded service area includes 3,472 households, 10,501 people, 32 businesses, and 39 farms spread over 119 square miles. The map of locations that will be benefitted by this program can be seen at www.stratanetworks.com/reconnect.
