The Ute Indian Tribe will be honored at Rice-Eccles Stadium this Saturday. University of Utah football will host the California Golden Bears in the 10th annual “Ute Proud” game. As part of the annual tradition, the Ute Tribe Business Committee will be recognized on
the field during the game and the Ute Tribe will perform on the field at halftime. The University of Utah and its athletics programs have collaborated with the Ute Indian Tribe in using the name “Utes” for its sports teams since 1972. The “Ute Proud” campaign kicked off in 2014 as part of an agreement between the Ute Tribal Business Committee and the University of Utah. Tribal leaders have worked closely with the University to ensure that Ute heritage be respectfully portrayed and that an accurate history of the Ute Tribe be shared.
