The Utah Department of Workforce Services released updated unemployment data this week. Daggett County unemployment stayed at 4.4 percent, which is up from 3.7 percent in October 2021. Duchesne County also stayed the same from the month before at 2.9 percent unemployment, down from 3.9 percent in October 2021. Uintah County unemployment moved up one-tenth of a percent to 3.5 percent, down from 4.5 percent one year ago. The October national unemployment rate increased two-tenths of a percent to 3.7 percent. October’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for Utah is unchanged at 2.1 percent. Approximately 37,300 Utahns are unemployed. “An unemployment rate of 2.1 percent does signal that the Utah labor market is extremely tight,” shares DWS Chief Economist Mark Knold. “Yet the economy continues to grow at a vigorous pace. It speaks to both the fortitude and attractiveness of Utah’s economy. Only a strong flow of labor in-migration can support a low unemployment rate economy growing at this pace.”
