Uintah School District has filled its final director position as part of an administrative reorganization announced earlier this year.
Under the new plan, Christy Nerdin will serve as the Director of Secondary Education, Jayme Leyba will serve as Director of Elementary Education, Dr. Mistalyn Leis will continue to serve as Director of Human Resources, Mindy Merrell will continue to serve as Director of Support Services, and new hire Ryan Maughn will serve as the Director of Special Programs.
The Uintah School Board voted unanimously to hire Maughan for the new position during Wednesday’s school board meeting. “We are pleased to have Ryan join Team Uintah,” shares Superintendent Dr. Rick Woodford. “Ryan brings extensive experience and knowledge in the field of special education to our district, has a passion for serving students with disabilities, and will strengthen our systems and processes to help all our students reach their full individual potential.”
Maughan has served as the Superintendent of the Emery School District since 2021 and his resignation from that position takes effect June 30th. During his 17 years in education, Maughan has taught students with severe and profound disabilities and held many positions, including special education director, student services supervisor, and career and technical education (CTE) director. “I am committed to advocating for all students, especially those who need additional support or cannot advocate for themselves,” says Maughan. “Every child can learn, and every child must be given the opportunities and support they need to do so. The path to success requires dedication to students, to educators, and to the community.”
