Uintah Recreation Dives Into World Of Pickleball With New Courts

While the new pickleball courts now open at Independence Park were the brainchild of Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion, Uintah Recreation is in charge of the facilities. Of the many contributors, Uintah County’s Special Service District 1 contributed the highest dollar amount to the project and now is in charge of managing and maintaining the facility. District Director Cheryl Meier shares that they are excited to offer these facilities to the community but asks all users to get educated on the rules of use. While these will likely decrease during the winter, the pickleball courts hours of operation are 5am to 11pm. These are community courts and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The courts have been very busy and all users are asked to follow court etiquette. No singles play when others are waiting. Use the “Paddle Saddle” to keep track of the order and who plays next. The school district gets first use of the courts during school hours but they will have to schedule that with Uintah Recreation ahead of time. If you have questions, contact Uintah Recreation at 435-781-0982.
