Seven Juniors from Uintah High School graduated from 2023 Utah Boys State held at Weber State University in Ogden on June 16th. They were among Boys Staters selected from High Schools in Utah, Washington, Germany and Alaska by leaders of local American Legion Posts. The experience provided a week-long role play during which students become part of the operation of city, county and state government. All attendees were assigned to one of eight cities and elected or assigned to city or state positions throughout the week. Mason Antillon, Sam Barfuss, Tyler Franklin, Phoenix Furrh, Cole Manwaring, Jose Munguia Ayon, and Isaac Weston were among the 186 participants who, for five days, adhered to a regimented schedule in their civic positions that started at 7am and ended at 11am. Led by local advisor Guy Collett, the Class of 23 will go down in the History of Utah Boys State as being the first class to write and adopt into permanency the Utah Boys State Anthem. There is room for 30 to 40 young men from the Uintah Basin who want to join the Utah Boys State Class of 2024. Those who are Juniors need to start making their plans now.
