A local sports legend was honored in a special ceremony Tuesday morning at Uintah High School. Billy Murray, graduate of the Uintah Class of 1958, was the first state wrestling champion for Uintah at 138 pounds as a sophomore. Murray then became Uintah’s first 3 time state champion after taking state his junior and senior years as well. Murray lettered in football, wrestling, and track all three years and went on to wrestle for the University of Utah on scholarship from 1959 to 1961 before being drafted into the Army. Murray spent decades officiating wrestling and football locally and is being welcomed into the Uintah Athletic Hall of Fame with open arms.
