Uintah High School English teacher Aaryn Snow Birchell has been named the State of Utah’s 2018 Teacher of the Year. The Utah State Board of Education made the announcement on Friday and presented Mrs. Birchell with a check for $10,000 dollars. She will now be entered into a national competition and will meet with the other teachers of the year at a national conference next summer. The trip will include the opportunity to meet with President Trump in Washington D.C. and attend a space camp in Alabama. Birchell was selected from 26 nominees by a committee including representatives from the Utah State Board of Education, school principals and teachers as well as the 2017 Utah Teacher of the Year. “Every teacher cares about their students but I have never met another educator who works as hard as Mrs. Birchell to show it,” shares former student Danielle Heaton. “Aaryn Birchell goes above and beyond to provide real-life support for the students under her care.” In her application, Birchell wrote that, “Humanity is our greatest resource and we must invest and nurture all the beauty of potential as we send these souls to the world that needs their best.” Congratulations Mrs. Birchell, the 2018 Utah Teacher of the Year!
