Everyone loves a good comeback story and a group of Uintah Basin high schoolers just delivered a good one. Eight weeks ago, as the Uintah High Marching Band started out their competition season, they were ranked dead last and it had been 11 years since the program had placed in state competition. Fast forward to the morning of Friday, November 5th. The group was thrilled to be entering the state competition ranked in 5th place. When the dust settled that day they were awarded a 3rd place finish and were the only band in the state to cause a shake up by jumping two places. The next day, the group attended the Bands of America national festival. Up against marching bands from across the country, the Uintah Marching Band has never finished better than second to last place at this festival. Well, this group rose to the challenge yet again by finishing 16th out of 25 bands with an all-time high score for Uintah Band. “To say I am immensely proud of these kids is an understatement,” Band Director Brian Gibson said. “If you see any of them, tell them good job.” Congratulations to all the students and leaders of the Uintah Marching Band and thank you for representing the Uintah Basin so well.
