Earlier this month, the Uintah Fire District issued timely reminders of how to prepare for and what to do during high fire danger. Citizens should prepare well in advance of a fire and watch for Red Flag Days issued by National Weather Service or local authorities. Preparations include the following: Complete a home inventory and talk to your insurance provider should you suffer a loss due to a wildfire. Sign up for Emergency Notifications and alerts. Have an evacuation plan and a designated place to meet families after an evacuation. Make sure every family member knows the location. Know where evacuation centers will be located in your community. Have a plan and supplies for your pets. During watch or warnings, citizens should make sure they have at least a 72-hour supply of important items and medications ready to go. Prioritize which personal items to take if evacuation is necessary. Know how to turn gas off to the home, remove portable propane tanks from the deck/patio, and remove items around the home to prevent ember ignitions. Place a ladder against the house and make sure your garden hoses are connected for fire department use. Close all windows and doors. When returning home after an evacuation there may be clean up or restoration work required. Check with the local Office of Emergency Management, local Health Department, and your Insurance Agency for information on resources and assistance.
